Obama: “It’s easier to get a Glock than a book . . . .”

When addressing the assembled mourners in Dallas, Barry Obama said the following[1]:

It’s easier for a teenager to get his hands on a Glock than a computer . . . or even a book.

First, there’s these places called libraries that will let you read books without going through any paperwork at all. Quite a few of these . . . libraries . . . will let you check out books and — wait for it — take them home without so much as a simple background check.

Nor do the librarians make you fill out federally-mandated paperwork asking you if you’re a convicted felon, fugitve from justice, illegal immigrant, been dishonorably discharged from the military, have been adjudicated as mentally unfit to read, have any domestic violence convictions, or if you’ve renounced your U.S. citizenship.

And if you want to keep the book, you don’t go to a library, but to another place called a bookstore, where you can hand over some of your cash and take the book home with you. No background check, no waiting period, just pay for your book, take it and go. Nor do you have to be at least 21 years old to purchase small, easily-carried books.

Why, they even let you buy or borrow multiple books without additional paperwork. WOW!

Nor do the feds require bookstore owners to get a federal license to sell books across state lines.

Now, what about prices?

Let’s see:

A mass-market paperback of the kind that I bought most of my books as ran at 2.50 (plus tax) back in the early 1980s. Now they’re up to ∅7.99-8.99.

Trade paperbacks in the 6″ x 9″ format usually run ∅9.99-19.99, depending on how many pages, the publisher, etc.

Hardbacks are pricier — they’re usually over ∅20, most likely in the ∅22-27 range (it does pay at times to check the remainder tables!).

How about computers, then?

You can get a used desktop (such as the one I’m typing this article on) for about ∅100-200 (I paid ∅90 to a place that was going out of business).

Used laptops are in the same price range.

And as with books, there’s no need to fill out any federally-mandated paperwork, no waiting periods, no required background check, no age requirement. You can get a computer, even a brand-new one, even if you’re a convicted felon, messed up between the ears, been dishonorably discharged, etc., etc.

As for the Glock, though, that’s a bit different. Brand-new, a Glock will run you about ∅500. Used, they can go for more or less, depending on condition and after-market modifications. A factory-model Glock in decent condition will cost you about ∅300.

On top of that, if you’re a convicted felon, don’t get caught possessing that Glock by the cops — the feds love to throw people in prison for ten-year stretches for that.

That federally-mandated paperwork and background check I linked to above? That’s the sort of thing you have to go through to purchase a firearms from a federally-licensed dealer. In order to sell firearms across state lines and on any sort of commercial basis, the feds require that the dealer get a Federal Firearms License [FFL].

So much for Obama’s comment in Dallas.

Here’s the really bad part about Obama’s comment:

He’s got advisors from the Cabinet secretaries and agency directors on down who could have offered up the correct information for his Dallas speech. It’s already bad taste to use a memorial service to score political points. On top of that, he used nonsensical comments to score those points? Come one, now.

Introducing . . . wait for it . . . SusanaCare!

Had a cold call from someone from “SWOP” (Southwest Organizing Project). She said they (SWOP) were working with the Obamacare people at “BeWellNM” (THIS outfit — http://bewellnm.com/), and starting soliciting personal information from me — family members, income, etc., and said “You may qualify for financial assistance.”

I told her I wasn’t comfortable giving that information over the phone. Then she said “write this number down in case you change your mind.” (I didn’t. And I won’t.)

Let’s make no bones about this — this BeWellNM / NMHIX outfit was set up with the support of Susana Martinez. And Obamacare is a federalized copy-and-paste job from Massachusetts Romneycare.

That makes BeWellNM and NMHIX SusanaCare now.

The “Sequester,” The Budget and Other Goodies

Taking note of an article in The Weekly StandardReporter Asks Carney: Will Obama Cut Back on Lavish Vacations, Golf Trips?

So I guess a cut of 85,000,000,000[1] out of a budget of 3,800,000,000,000[1] really isn’t such a bad thing after all, is it? Maybe, just maybe . . . they could, you know, cut a bit more?

Dare I hope for such “slash and burn” legislation?

Never mind that no such budget has actually been passed by both U.S. House and U.S. Senate and been signed by Dear Leader Obama, as the U.S. Constitution supposedly requires?

Isn’t someone who was allegedly a “Constitutional law professor” supposed to notice things like these?

How is it that I, with ZERO formal schooling beyond the high school level in the law, the legislative process or the political process can notice this, but 535 people who allegedly swore to uphold and defend the Constitution blow it off without a second thought?

In my opinion, it would be worth it to pay Obama (and Biden, and Boehner, and the other 534 idiots) 1,000,000 a year, tax free, to do nothing but play golf all year around.

Just make sure that they understand that the deal is OFF the second any of them picks up any sort of writing implement or touches any sort of keyboard.

NOTES

  1. These numbers are ballpark wild-assed guesstimates, of course. As the cliche goes, “close enough for government work.”
  2. I have a habit of using the null set symbol (“∅”) to represent Federal Reserve Notes as opposed to the “dollar sign” (“$”), because the dollar is supposed to be backed by gold or silver, where the Federal Reserve Note is redeemable upon government demand from yours and my life, liberty, property and pursuit of happiness.

Boston Tea Party Response to the 2011 State of the Union

Boston Tea Party Response to the 2011 State of the Union

by Darryl W. Perry, BTPUSA National Chair

President Obama began the 2011 State of the Union address by congratulating the freshman class of the 112th Congress and asking people to be “mindful of the empty chair in this Chamber, and pray for the health of” Gabrielle Giffords. The President then mentioned the supposed “debate” between team blue and team red over the last two years saying, “that’s what a robust democracy demands.” Though, as a Constitutional law “scholar,” President Obama should know that the United States of America is supposed to be a Republic, not a democracy.

The President mentioned the recent mid-term elections saying, “governing will now be a shared responsibility between parties. New laws will only pass with support from Democrats and Republicans.” Unfortunately for the American people, the only things that will be able to get the needed bi-partisan support will not be laws that reduce the size, scope or power of the federal government. One need only look at the bi-partisan legislation passed during the Bush & Clinton administrations.

President Obama claims tax cuts were passed in December, there were no tax cuts passed by Congress or signed by President Obama in December. There was an extension of tax rates that were scheduled to expire, however there were no tax cuts passed in December.

He then went into the purpose of his speech, “winning the future.”

President Obama did not propose to “win the future” with plans to eliminate the IRS, war on drugs, legal tender laws or any other number of failed policies and agencies that have caused the condition we live in. President Obama said, “We need to out-innovate, out-educate, and out-build the rest of the world. We have to make America the best place on Earth to do business. We need to take responsibility for our deficit, and reform our government. That’s how our people will prosper. That’s how we’ll win the future. And tonight, I’d like to talk about how we get there.” The easiest way to make sure America is the “best place on Earth to do business” would be to eliminate the regulations and licensing laws that prevent new businesses from opening. Congress should also abolish the Federal Reserve and legal tender laws, which allow the private central bank to manipulate the money supply which causes the “boom-bust” cycle.

“The first step in winning the future,” Obama says, “is encouraging American innovation.” Though when he says “encouraging American innovation” he doesn’t mean removing subsidies that support existing business in certain industries which intentionally hinder or prevent competition. Instead of eliminating subsidies, the President called for an increase in subsidies for “biomedical research, information technology and especially clean energy technology.” Obama wants to use government force to “have 1 million electric vehicles on the road by 2015” and “80% of America’s electricity will come from clean energy sources by 2035.”

The President also wants to spend more taxpayer funding to replace No Child Left Behind and “prepare 100,000 new teachers in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and math.”

President Obama said, “America is the nation that built the transcontinental railroad, brought electricity to rural communities, and constructed the interstate highway system.” The transcontinental railroad was built by private business, electricity was originally provided by competing companies (until companies were able to get government granted monopolies) though the interstate highway system was built with taxpayer money without explicit constitutional authority to do so. He also wants to spend taxpayer funding to expand infrastructure, with a goal “to give 80% of Americans access to high-speed rail” within 25 years and within 5 years “we will make it possible for business to deploy the next generation of high-speed wireless coverage to 98% of all Americans.”

The President then mentioned the complicated tax code being enforced by the IRS and written by lobbyist and special interests. Instead of asking Congress to abolish the IRS and the income tax while reducing wasteful spending and eliminating unconstitutional spending, he asked Congress to “simplify the system” and eliminate loopholes; optimistically hoping that lobbyist will not be able to get tax breaks in the future. He also proposed a $400 billion “freeze” on spending, which amounts to not increasing spending on 12% of the federal budget.

President Obama says he has “ordered a review of government regulations. Only when we find rules that put an unnecessary burden on businesses, we will fix them. But I will not hesitate to create or enforce commonsense safeguards to protect the American people.” I hope the President keeps his word on this, though I will not hold my breath.

Obama claims the “Iraq War is coming to an end” though last August, he declared the undeclared war to be “over” while keeping 50,000 troops in Iraq. The President also warned the world, “we will not relent, we will not waver, and we will defeat you.”

President Obama’s State of the Union address on “winning the future” was nothing more than a message on spending tax payer money on central planning while giving lip service to cutting government spending and lowering federal taxes.

Aftermath of the Joseph Stack Suicide

Current mood: cynical, frustrated, worried

While I first heard about Joseph Stack’s suicide run at tonight’s episode of Liberty on the Rocks, I didn’t get any details until after following a link provided by skiffy writer J. Neil Schulman, via Facebook.

Already the lamestream snoozemedia are attempting to pin this one on the Tea Party groups. Never mind that Stack made NO mention of the Tea Party movement, the We The People Foundation, or any other organization in his six-page suicide letter.

Alex Jones’ infowars.com reports that the FBI knew that Stack was planning this attack. First they dropped the ball on stopping “9-11,” now this. Aren’t they supposed to be watching the tax honesty movement as “potential terrorists” ? Great job you’re doing, guys — wasn’t the USA-PATRIOT Act of 2001 AKA the “Patriot Act”[1] railroaded through Congress, often without being read by the members voting on it, specifically to stop this sort of thing?

Expect Obama and Janet Napolitano[2] to manufacture from thin air, BS and hyperbole “discover” a link to the Tea Party movement, a Texas-based militia group, and anyone else that they think that the non-political public will accept being demonized. Why would you expect them not to try this? They’ve tried it before, what with Janet’s report that military personnel returning from Iraq and Afghanistan, along with Constitutionalists and Second Amendment activists, were “potential terrorists.” (See here for a summary, or here for the actual report.)

Conspiracy-fantasy advocates will say that the Stack manifesto was manufactured by the Obama Administration, the Council of Foreign Relations, the Bildebergers, the Trilateral Commission, the Committee of 300, or all of them put together, and it was done so to give the Obama Administration an excuse to re-authorize the “Patriot Act.” Regardless of the cicrumstances, the Obama Administration WILL cite Stack’s suicide run as a rationale for doing exactly that.

Not only will Obama, Holder, Napolitano push for re-authorization of the “Patriot Act” and try to link Stack’s suicide run to the militias, tax honesty groups, Tea Party groups, etc., etc., but they will use this as their excuse to push for expansion of the “Patriot Act.”

I find this aspect of the whole affair to be particularly vulgar, in that while rank-and-file Democrats were pissed at their members of the U.S. House and Senate for supporting the “Patriot Act,” my fellow libertarians foresaw that those Democrats were supporting it NOT to be “bipartisan,” as they often call upon the GOP members of Congress to do, but so that when a Democrat held the executive-branch reins of power, then Democrats could use the act to go after Republicans (and anyone else they didn’t like)

I suspect that the real reason most Democrats supported the USA-PATRIOT act of 2001 is that they saw their 2004 presidential candidate in the White House come 2005 and then they would have access to that power and get to use the Act to chase Republicans.

This is what’s happened with the IRS — Reagan and Bush I used it to go after Democrat-supporting groups, and Waco Willie used it to go after the NRA.

NOTES

  1. USA PATRIOT is short for “Uniting and Strengthening America by Providing Appropriate Tools Required to Intercept and Obstruct Terrorism”
  2. Judge Andrew Napolitano (see also judgenap.com) actually has read and understands the Constitution.

About Vilsack’s Pollyanna Piece (Letter to the editor (ABQ Journal))

Subject: About Vilsack’s Pollyanna Piece

Upon reading Secretary Vilsack’s op-ed piece in yesterday’s Journal, I noticed two glaring omissions on the Secretary’s part.

The first is that with every one of those “dollars” (really Federal Reserve Notes or “FRNs” that comes to New Mexico from Washington DC, also comes federal regulations on how the states are to spend that cash. This is what Washington does with highway money — “If you want your tax money back to spend on highways in your state, you have to agree to our conditions on how you spend it, and our conditions for anything related to those projects.”

Which brings me to the second point — the money in Obama’s programs was taxed away from productive Americans, who could grow the economy in an organic, sustainable manner by spending it themselves. How would they spend it? Let’s see — providing basic necessities for themselves and their families, donating to charities, and starting their own businesses are just three ways that they could contribute to the real recovery effort.

There hasn’t been much if any mention of how much this clown looks and sounds like The Rock of WWF/WWE wrestling fame, at least superficially. Maybe they’re not close enough for Johnson to pass as in a police lineup, but they’re similar enough for parody purposes.

Can you smell what The Barack is cookin’ ? Reeks like a big pile of BS from here.
